    Niagara Falls

I went on a pilgrimage with a bunch of cool neo-cats from Boston. We visited a couple of shrines, Buffalo NY, and Niagara falls. It was an amazing experience. To think that this is only a bite size treat of what España 2011 could be.

June 2010 About the future, manifestos, and mayo.

Think of this as a state of the union address; Full of lies and promises. Only difference is that I will not wear a suit and there will be no rebuttal by the opposing party; maybe I’ll wear the suit. To keep myself from going on into a tangerine coloured tangent, I will focus on one main subject and completely veer off from there.

The future is a lie and you know it.

I’m kidding. The future is not a lie and you don’t know it. That was reverse psychology.

At this moment my future is not in my hands directly. ( I don’t think it ever has been.) June has made this more than clear. I’ve always been jealous of the kids who have a pre-determined future. They know they want to be (insert career) because their father/grandfather had that career or dreamed of having that career. They can go through college knowing what the future will hold. Thus having time for more important things like drinking themselves blind and posting on facebook about how awesome it was. I know not all folks are like that. We all get our own path to follow or not follow. It’s just that, at the moment, I haven’t the slightest clue of what my future is. And I’m completely fine with it.

I put the Man in Manifesto

This month could be best described as a turning point. I know what you’re thinking; ‘oh he’s going to go all epiphanal* on me.’ You’re only half right. This month has brought events that have forced me to reflect on who I am and what my ‘mission’ is. Did you roll your eyes when you read the word mission? yes, I heard them grinding too. I’ll be the first one to tell you that goals, mission statements, and plans are ‘a bag of hurt’. Motivational posters with kitties hanging in there. Motivational speakers who overcame tragedy and now want to rub it in your face while selling your their DVD/CD collection. Productivity gurus who hold the secret to making friends (the secret is poking on facebook). It’s all BS. It’s just a way to capitalize on your miserabilia. That being said, one does need at some point a sort of a manifesto. Not to shove in peoples faces when they ask what ones purpose is, but to keep one aligned and on track to wherever it is they want to go. And to make things douchy I will now waste moments of your time by giving you what I deem to be my manifesto. You do know you don’t have to read this do you?

    • I will not forget where I came from
    • I will work as hard as my father and grandfather have worked
    • I will be a good role model to my younger siblings
    • I will not be afraid to share my talents
    • I will forgive and ask for forgiveness
    • I will tell the truth
    • I will take care of my body
    • I will ask for help
    • I will appreciate what others do for me
    • I will love
    • I will not give a fuck what anyone else thinks

Wasn’t that the wankiest thing you’ve ever heard? I guess It’s not really there for you. It’s for me. So I can keep this in mind whenever I fall off the path. It’s as stupid and cheesy as the motivational dvds from the douchy guy in the Sear’s suit. But, ‘I will not give a fuck what anyone thinks’.

    About mayo.

    fuck mayo.

    An appreciation of brass

I’ve always had a thing for the brass sound. Ironically it’s the only instrument that I can’t really play. Well I haven’t really tried. Anyway, brass instruments tend to be pushed into certain genres and sounds. Sometimes they can be seen as campy or even old. And in some ways it’s true. I roll my eyes every time I hear a high school band attempt a cover of a pop song. Yes it’s loud, but there’s no energy, no chaos, no surprises. I’ve scoured the youtubes for some brass bands that are more my style. Read on, fellow reader.

I love the Serbs and their brass bands. Here’s the Picikato brass band doing what they do best.

Of course you can’t forget the Mexican brass bands. Here’s one playing some classic mambo. None of that lame-ass girly banda romantica bs. Screw them and their faux-hawks.

Here’s another Mexican banda. Playing el ‘Pato Asado’ which means the grilled duck? it’s probably some euphemism or something. They’re obviously playing a song about banging girls and drinking 40s.

and now to the other side of the world with the KOCANI ORKESTAR. Another sound I’m completely in love with.

This is Beirut playing the shrew. Beautiful song. Some accordion to go with your brass.

Finally we have one of my favourite things. In NOLA they see people off to the pearly gates with a fucking loud brass band. It’s a celebration of your life. When I go I want to go with a brass band.

    RAD: Stylish White Female

So every now and then I find someone that’s particularly amazing. Today we have Terra McBride from Pittsburgh, PA. She is the Stylish White Female. What I like about Terra is that she gives a fresh face to fashion. It’s not a big operation. There are no million dollar designer threads. There are no flamboyant make-up artists. And there are no professional photographers with large format cameras and huge soft boxes.

It’s simply Terra. She comes up with the outfits, she goes out and takes the photos (by herself) and she posts them on her blog. I don’t actually know much about fashion but the outfits look amazing. And they seem to be at a price that normal human beings can afford. This is the opposite of a thick issue of Vogue. This is real.

So if you’re into fashion check her blog out. Even if you’re not, one can really appreciate how much effort she puts into her site. I sort of wish she had a ‘donate’ button on her site. Oh also, follow her on the twitters. @spicymeatball

    Boston March 27th 2010

So last weekend, Salvador, Beto and Christian went on a little trip to Lynn and Boston as a last day out with Salvador. Salvador is leaving for Mexico in the coming weeks. I haven’t really been in the city lately so it was nice to get back out there.  More after the Jump.

    Lynn

On the Lynnway there is this cool flea market type place. It’s an especially depressing place to be, yet incredibly fun.

they have all the latest fashions

    mannequins to write home about.

    Obama towels!

    And Jesus Pants!

    Revere Beach

After wandering around for a while we headed over to revere beach for some fun in the sun.

We did a bit of artwork for the community

and we had general good clean fun.

    Boston

We headed downtown for some food and touristy activities

We saw a street performer doing his thing.

    We had some Anna’s (naturally)

We saw some barf inducing HD 3D Televisions at the Sony Style store

We beat up some PAX East nerds

And we went up to a tall building as all tourists should

Although I’ve run around the city many a time with many a girl, I found this trip refreshing. Some of my friend’s hadn’t done the touristy thing around Boston. So it was neat to show them around and confidently push my way around people to get to the subway. I missed riding the T. All the chimes and voices bring back fond memories. BOOP PARK STREET. Some day I’ll live close to the city and be cool like the rest of you.

So, Farewell Salvador. I hope your years here were interesting. We’ll see you some time soon.

    Psyche!!!!

I wrote another 10 songs this month. This set of songs (I’m still finding the correct name for each set of 10) is entitled

Kinderkat: None of these are love songs.

These songs are all one giant song in some ways. They were all written and recorded by me. I will be posting a song a day till we reach 21 songs on the overal count. More to come.

  • June 02, 10:50 PM
“I haven’t written anything in a month. This is obviously not going anywhere. I GIVE UP.”
  • May 06, 01:33 PM

    010: I may have died.

This song concludes the first section of kinderkat songs. I’m sort of behind schedule or whatever. But 10 songs in one month isn’t so bad? I want to set certain constraints for each set of 10. Maybe just working with a certain subject or certain instruments or certain method of recording. The first ten was just testing the waters, the next should be different. I say a lot of things.  I’m debating whether or not to include the methods I use to get these songs done. Perhaps at least say what I used to make it. Anyway, 10 done, 101 to go.

Talk about ambitious. I’ve decided to write one hundred and eleven songs by this time next year. I started 3.25.10 and will hopefully reach that goal 3.25.11

All songs must be original songs, so no covers. Wish me luck and let me know if you’d like to collaborate on a song with me.
